Isn't the internet amazing?....(if you hadn't already noticed?)
As soon as I put up some research pictures for SS10 then the hawks at Selectism are on it like a flash;
http://www.selectism.com/news/2009/01/06/stansfield-springsummer-2010-research/
and it brings up an important point - well to me it is anyway!
In the days of so much information being freely available and the numerous ways a brand can talk to the world it seems pointless to hold too much back. A certain person very close to me, who also works in the industry, told me not to post these as people will copy. My response is ''so what? let them copy''. This business runs on people copying, everything is pretty much a re-hash of something from before. My collections have more plagiaristic sampling than It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back but I don't see anyone (except hip hop philistines) saying that particular masterpiece lacked originality. A few things I will keep close to my chest but giving people an insight into how a collection comes together is not something to worry about.
Anyway its not what you have but how you use it.....
So yes, next season the theme is The Royal Navy - so if you want you can do your collection about that too and we can have a competition?
I am going to the War Museum & HMS Belfast, I'm going to trawl through Ebay, Free & Easy, the Thursday market at Spitalfields and any other vintage hunting grounds. I am going to watch Hell In The Pacific, In Which We Serve and a BBC Documentary called Shipmates. I'll probably watch Master & Commander again for the 15th time and I may even read a Patrick O'Brian novel. I'll do more research on Naval class dress codes, I'll type random words into google image search to see what comes up and I'll try and hunt down any photos of my grandad from his days in a Submarine in WW2. And whilst I am doing all this Van Morrison's & Lonnie Donnegans version of Sloop John B will be playing in my head.
I'll do other things as well its just I can't think of anything else at the moment....but you get the idea?
And you know what? Autumn/Winter 2010 (if you can close your eyes and think that far ahead) will be about the British joy of rambling, so you can have that too.
Also if your factory can turn things around really quickly Spring/Summer 2009 is set around the the end of the Wild West and the oncoming Industrial age....so to start you off you better get onto Amazon and order the following;
Night of the Hunter
The Last Picture Show
There Will Be Blood
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Hahaha, you can't have it both ways!
"then the hawks at Selectism" / "The nice people at Selectism have been saying nice things.."
Be thankful to Selectism, as I've gone on to purchase the Car Coat from Oi-polloi.
A very big fan!
OK fair enough! What I meant to say obviously came out wrong. I mean hawks in the nicest possible sense of the word. So more like a cute Hawk like Kes, not an evil vulture.
Stansfiled, every where I turn!
